Quijada de burro

$5.00

The jawbone is pretty common all over South America as a percussion instrument. Its usually held from the center and hit with the palm of the other hand in one of the sides of the jaw. In Peru, this is common practice, but also local musicians have expaneded the ways in which the jawbone is performed, playing it with the hand and also a thick wooden mallet, which can also be used to play the teeth like a güiro. Interestingly enough, a certain space battle franchise uses it as a sound design source in one of their spinoff shows, and it gave me some ideas for some cool FX. Try it out!
