About us
-
Saturn Samples is a growing collection of deeply-sampled curated instruments. We look for inspiring music-making tools from around the world and build them into simple, intuitive virtual instruments. We obsess over audio quality and carefully choose the right gear to capture the feel of being in the room with the instrument.
-
We deeply sample instruments to capture their most idiomatic sounds and gestures, and strive to sample full instrument families, covering their entire range from bass to soprano, and beyond if the instrument can reach it.
This way of approaching instruments is very appealing to composers and commonly used for classic instruments, but rarely taken to a broader approach that includes musics from around the world, and across time.
-
As important as the instrument is capturing it in a space where the sound can fully bloom, and with gear that can capture it in great detail. Partnered with industry-leading “La Guarida” studios in Lima, Peru, we’ve found a room in which there is enough space for the sound of any instrument, from the quietest and most delicate to the loudest and biggest instruments; and where there is enough separation between close and room mics to provide composers with the flexibility to place instruments wherever they want in the room.
A small but mighty collection of carefully selected microphones is behind the sound of Saturn Samples. We keep audio processing to a minimum, delivering the most natural sound possible. In order to do that, mic selection and configuration is key.
